Cleaning can be a mundane task, and typically held off until the weekends (or not done at all). When you live in a small space, clutter can make it feel even smaller. That’s why it’s important to keep your space clean. Jumpstart your spring cleaning with us!
The bedroom can be a daunting task. Especially if you have storage under your bed, large closets, and other storage spaces. We recommend starting with the closets and take everything out. Just do it. Cleaning the desk is my arch-nemesis in the realm of cleaning. But it has to be done. If you can, clean this out 3-4 times a year. You’d be surprised what things you no longer need.
Go through each drawer at a time and make piles for each drawer. As your cleaning, add things you think below in each drawer to those designated piles. Have a garbage bag handy for quick and easy clean up. When putting things away, put large flat objects at the bottom of the drawer, and pile up.
Put back what you need and what you want to keep. Recognize a shirt your haven’t worn in a few months or years? Donate it. Right now, H&M offers 15% off for every bag of clothes donated! Why do you think we bought all of those pillows for our living room? Keep your closet organized with handy bins. Clean under your bed at the same time. Chances are you’ll have similar items here as your closet. Combine and organize each space efficiently. Your desk can be home to more unwanted clutter. Go drawer by drawer to remove things you no longer need.
Carry out your closet cleaning throughout any other closets in your space. For a small NYC apartment, we’re kind of blessed with a lot of closet space, which is somewhat of a problem when we eventually move…
You can easily refresh your bedroom with a new bed spread and sheets. We got these new sheets from Target. By refreshing some pillow covers and our favorite, snuggle-worthy throw, our bedroom looks like a whole new space. At the very least, all you should do is clean your sheets 😉
