Six Summer Crafts for Kids

Summer Crafts for Kids

Liam loves arts and crafts. Throughout last year’s school year, he brought home so many crafts. We didn’t know what to do with all of them. So when camp ended a few weeks ago, we wanted his days between camp and the start of the new school year to remain structured. So in addition to reading his favorite books, writing in his workbooks, and three-thirty p.m. movies, I held art class. Here are six summer crafts kids will love to make with you.

I, too, loved arts and crafts as a kid. So this made me really happy we got to do something together that we both love. Don’t get me wrong, I love building train tracks, but it’s nice to get up from the ground once in a while.

I had a few goals in mind when thinking about these crafts. 1. They had to be fun. 2. They needed to work on motor skills. 3. They needed to share supplies or use what we already had in stock. At the end of the day, these were all fun crafts. One was a little more complicated for a four-year-old, but the rest seemed age appropriate.

After day one, my son asked, “What are we doing next?” And the next morning, “Is it craft time?” I really saw how much he loved scissors and I was impressed with his cutting skills. Unsurprisingly, we have an overflowing storage bin of craft supplies. I had half of the supplies and had to buy the other half. I linked all the supplies below.

At the end of our craft week, we ventured up to my parents in northern New England. We got them involved in our last craft project. Everyone did such a great job.
