I think Fatima and I advanced to the next level of psychic-ness in our relationship. We’ve always been able to read each other’s minds, however we’ve hit a complete sync. It’s been so hot and humid over the last few weeks. On my way home from work the other day, I dreaded the thought of making dinner. The last thing I wanted to do was put my face into a hot oven. Suddenly, a craving came to mind: BLTs. When I walked in the door, Fatima had all the fixings for BLTs and was ready to make them. Completely in sync!
There’s nothing better than hot bacon, crispy lettuce, and a thick-sliced tomato layered between two pieces of soft country bread coated with chilled mayo. One of my favorite comfort foods.
A few days later, we flipped through Cravings and came across these King’s Hawaiian BLPTs. Since we just made BLTs, we had all the essentials.
What are King’s Hawaiian BLPTs?
Basically, they are BLTs with grilled pineapple and onions. We were in a Hawaiian, tropical kind of mood as we packed for our trip to Maui. So this meal was a great mood-setter.
Oh-my-gosh, wow! Chrissy recommends preparing the bacon with garlic. Our apartment smelled of roasted garlic and bacon all day…aka Heaven! I will definitely be cooking bacon this way from now on. We roasted the pineapple until the skin on both sides started to turn golden.
We were so excited to try these. Nothing beats King’s Hawaiian rolls. These BLPTs are awesome. Not only did you have your classic BLT essentials, but your bacon had garlic, you got a crisp bite of sweet onion, and the pineapple on top brought the sandwich together. It was a perfect balance of sweet and savory.
