This year, we did not know what to do for our Halloween costumes. We had a shortlist of ideas. However, when we were in Marshalls, we saw this lion costume and had to let Liam try it on. He just stood there, looking at us and then ran off. This tiny human was running around Marshalls in this lion costume. That’s when I was sold. He. Is. THE CUTEST. Lion. But what were we going to be for Halloween? We couldn’t be pumpkins again. We couldn’t think of a better idea, so we went with the first thing that came to mind: The Wizard of Oz. But with just the Scarecrow, the Lion, and the Tin Woman.
Although we weren’t trick or treating, we needed costumes to participate in our neighborhood’s Halloween Family Parade. We had so much fun. These types of events are always a good indicator for what the costume trends will be once the kids are out trick or treating. While I thought there would be a lot of the same costumes, there were all sorts of unique family costumes from Legend of Zelda, to superheroes, Disney characters, and very scary monsters. The only costumes that seemed to repeat were sharks (a la Baby Shark). The parade ended in a park, where performances took place for the families, and where we had our photo shoot :). The rain did not stop us!
The Wizard of Oz
This was a very easy theme to execute and the costumes were easy to pull together. Since Liam is the star, mom and dad didn’t need to do anything fancy. Wouldn’t want to upstage the lead.
Lion
Our son was all set with his costume (the lion costume we purchased at Marshalls last month).
Tin Woman
For the Tin Woman costume, Fatima bought some silver pants, a shirt, layered with grey sweaters and we created her hat with a silver funnel and a headband.
To make the funnel hat, I hammered a hole in each side of the funnel then looped a headband through.
Scarecrow
For my Scarecrow, all I had to buy was a hat because it came with straw for my sleeves and pants (currently sold out!). I reused my jacket from our Harry Potter Halloween Party.
Fall Family Fun
On our way over to the parade’s starting point, we began to think we had the wrong date. It seemed like we were the only family in costume in the neighborhood. It was about a twenty minute walk, but halfway through someone stopped us to ask about our costumes and mentioned they saw “a bunch of other families dressed up.” PHEW! I couldn’t tell you how many times I checked the date before we left. Over 1,200 people walked in the parade. The rain didn’t stop anyone!
