My wife collected a few bottles of Beyonce’s SirDavis Whisky for her birthday! We made the Honey Bee cocktail and wanted to make another whisky cocktail. Our adventure in Martha’s Vineyard this summer provided some inspiration for this Blackberry Smash.
I made a blackberry smash whisky cocktail two ways to see which one I liked more. One with blackberry puree and the other with muddled blackberries. My theory is the puree would bring out a more blackberry punch and the muddled would give it a refreshing blackberry taste. And I was right.
We used SirDavis, but use your favorite whisky to make this cocktail. For reference the restaurant used Maker’s Mark.

Blackberry Smash Whisky Cocktail
Making blackberry puree is really easy. Throw a small package of blackberries into a blender and blend them until smooth. When making this drink, you’ll want to strain as you’re pouring the cocktail into your glass because there will be seeds to filter out.
For the rest of the cocktail, you’ll need mint leaves, lemon juice (1 lemon is enough), and honey simple syrup. To make honey simple syrup, combine 2 parts honey and 1 part water in a pot over medium heat. Stir until the honey is dissolved and you’re left with what looks like water consistency. Set aside to cool completely. Once cool, consistency will be like maple syrup.

The verdict: If you want a cocktail with a stronger blackberry taste, go with the blackberry puree. If you want a refreshing blackberry cocktail with a little more whisky taste, muddle the blackberries.
