Air Fried French Fries

February 20, 2019
Hamilton Beach Air Fryer

Our 2019 goals are not off to a great start. Target runs (big-box store shopping in general) have reverted back to their old ways. Our reading? Still on the same books. And a balanced diet? Sure, I think that’s the one goal we’re sort of hitting, at least with these air fried french fries.

It’s so hard to try to wait until you’re out of everything. But then a few times a year, you run out of everything at the same time. It’s like that math problem in class: if five trains are different distances away and are traveling at varying speeds, when and where will they all intersect? So we’re starting to keep track of what we’re low on and slowly building a list for when we need to order. What’s helped is we don’t live next to a Target anymore and the convenience factor is gone.

We need to drill down on our reading. I should try to read a second book before February is over so I can stay on pace.

Oreo Milkshake

As for our balanced diet, we’re doing pretty well with that. Sure, we indulge in everything chicken sandwiches and burgers, but we make sure to pair them with green vegetables. Now, we have this Hamilton Beach Air Fryer to help us make our indulgences better to eat.

Air Fried French Fries

Is an Air Fryer for you?

The other night we made a classic burger with french fries. Fatima was craving an Oreo milkshake, so we made one to split. It was definitely not a balanced meal, but because we air fried our fries, we felt good about the meal.

The air fryer allows you to indulge in your favorite fried food while using little to no oil. It’s a convection oven that crisps food to the same texture as if you fried it. When we made our french fries, we followed the same steps we’d normally do when oil frying and baking them. However, I don’t think we had to let them soak in water all day. We only filled the basket up less than half way, but most of the fries did not cook in the 20 minutes. This was likely due to soaking them in water. The next day, we cooked the remaining fries for 5 minutes at a time (15 minutes total) and shook the basket in between. They came out better than the night before and they tasted pretty good, too!

We definitely have to try more meals with the air fryer, but so far, the biggest pay off has been the clean-up. The non-stick basket makes it so easy to clean. Much better than cleaning out a pan of used cooking oil. Our next adventure will have to be fried chicken. Very curious about how those will turn out.

Talking to a fan.

When I told my sister about the air fryer, she freaked out. She immediately started telling us about the item we had just received and all the benefits. She was passionate about it and made us very excited to cook something.

To our surprise we couldn’t find a recipe for air fried french fries. The instructions were very vague, so use this as your resource on what and what not to do!

If you’re dying to get your hands on an air fryer and can’t wait until our contest is over, Hamilton Beach is giving 10% off their air fryer on Amazon using the code 10AIRFRYER (valid until 3/7).

1

Peel and slice your potatoes into 1/4-1/2 inch sticks.

Turn on and set to cook.

5

Halfway through, remove the basket and shake them up.

6

Place the basket back in to continue to cook.

Within 3-5 minutes of the end time (usually 18-20 minutes), check on the fries for doneness.

8

Notes

Avoid soaking the fries in water (like you may normally do for deep frying). We did this on the first attempt and the fries didn't cook evenly.
