We’re halfway through October and Halloween is right around the corner! We’ve been getting into the spooky szn through some baking, crafting, and spontaneous Monster Mash dance parties. This weekend, we’re heading out for some leaf peeping and pumpkin picking. If you’re looking to get into the holiday spirit, here are some activities you can do right now!
Pumpkin Picking for the ‘gram…or to carve
Get in some fresh air, vitamin d, and fall feels. Here’s a throwback to two years ago.
Decorate pumpkins
If you’re not into carving pumpkins, that’s ok! Painting pumpkins are a great family-friendly activity. Just spray your pumpkins with a clear sealant, and use acrylic paint. Here are some dad and son pumpkins. Our son used his hands to create the ghosts on the pumpkin in the back and I used my thumbs to create those ghosts on the pumpkin in the front.
Mummy pumpkin and pumpkin succulents
More fun ways to decorate a faux pumpkin, turn it into a mummy! Check out our how-to for the mummy and pumpkin succulents.
Carve pumpkins
A classic Halloween pastime. Let your kids scoop out the guts. You may want to wait closer to Halloween to carve your pumpkins or carve some now and carve some later.
Make your Halloween costumes
You may not be attending a party or going trick or treating this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate as a family! Make your costumes and throw yourselves a party! Check our Halloween costumes over the years:
Bake and decorate cookies
Nothing says Halloween more than a spooky cake, cute sugar cookies, or pumpkin-anything.
Tissue ghosts
A favorite pastime from my childhood was taking tissues and turning them into ghosts…all year round.
Fall chex mix
Get into the mood by filling your home with the smell of chex mix baking in the oven. It’s divine.
Halloween movie night
Whether it’s Hocus Pocus, The Witches, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Harry Potter, or Halloween, a movie night is always a great idea, especially when hot chocolate is involved.
