I cannot believe it’s already December! Where did this year go? Now that the holidays are here, we all need to find some amazing recipes for our guests. I highly recommend these delicious steak bites! A little something you may not know about me, is the first Christmas I ever celebrated was with Brian. I grew up in a Muslim household. Although I haven’t been practicing since I was nine, there were still a few things I never got into, like eating pork.
Brian invited me home for my first Christmas about eight years ago. You could say I was a little nervous. Although I had met most of his entire family over that summer at his parents’ lake house, I was still very nervous. Mostly, of the unknown. The only knowledge I had of Christmas came from movies like the Elf, Family Stone, and Love Actually. I knew there maybe some people dressed in elf costumes. Or family arguments about a sibling’s girlfriend. Or it could have been possible that Brian had a cousin I didn’t know about who was newly elected British prime minister. Spoiler alert, none of the above happened.

I knew I could not show up empty-handed. I still remember the gift I brought all those years ago; a Yankee holiday candle set, a polar bear ornament with the family’s names, and a box of turtle chocolates. There was one other thing I could bring to my first Christmas, my way around the kitchen. Whether it came to cleaning the dishes or cooking, I made myself available. Since then, these last eight Christmases have been helping out in the Marquis’ kitchen. Since before we started the blog, Brian and I always tried to find something new and delicious to make for the family. This year, I am getting some help from Chrissy Teigen. In case you missed my last two posts on her fried fish sandwiches or her mac and cheese, I am a little obsessed with her Cravings cookbook. My goal is to cook though these amazing recipes and report back to you.
Appetizers are very important at any gathering. They are the pre-show to your main course. You can’t let you audience down before the show begins. Nothing against cheese and crackers, but sometimes you have to give your guests a little more. This year, I will be making Chrissy Teigen’s steak bites, topped with a creamy bleu cheese butter. We previewed this recipe when we had our friend Stephanie visit our apartment. I was pleasantly surprised how quick and easy these steak bites were. To prep these, I cut the steak into cubes and mixed together the bleu cheese and butter. Once Stephanie arrived, I warmed some oil in my cast iron, seasoned the meat, cooked both sides, removed from the pan and immediately spread the bleu cheese butter over the top.
If you read my last post on making the mac cheese, I mentioned I loved all cheeses but I was not completely honest with you. I hate bleu cheese – well, at least I thought I hated bleu cheese. My negative feelings for this cheese stem from me eating it wrong my whole life. Bleu cheese is very over powering. You need another strong, solid flavor to pair with it. Chrissy, thank you for opening my eyes to this amazing combo. These steak bites were delicious. I cannot wait to share this with my family at Christmas! If you are looking for me, I’ll be in the kitchen.
