September 5, 2023 has arrived! Trader Joe’s around the country have released all of their pumpkin products. Using one of those pumpkin products, we made this delicious pumpkin brioche french toast.
Last year, we used our go-to french toast recipe (thanks Martha!) with Trader Joe’s brioche bread. It was fantastic. By the time we made that, we missed the opportunity to try their pumpkin brioche bread with this recipe. Once September 5th rolled around, we ran over to Trader Joe’s to snag their pumpkin brioche bread.
Chef’s kiss. This french toast soak can be used with almost every kind of bread. For a classic, dried out baguette, you’ll soak the bread slices a little longer than this moist brioche bread. For the brioche or a much softer bread, you’ll dunk both sides, and let the excess drip off for about 5-10 minutes.
Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Brioche French Toast
As you read, use this french toast soak for almost any kind of bread. When it’s a dried out baguette, soak the bread in a big pan before letting the excess drip off. We have a baking sheet that has a cooling rack insert and when we need to let the excess drip off the bread, we find that’s the best way!
Trader Joe's Pumpkin Brioche French Toast
Ingredients
- 6 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup of orange juice
- 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Zest of 1 lemon, (about 1 tablespoon)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
- Slices of Brioche Bread
Instructions
Heat your griddle to 350 degrees F (medium-high heat).
Nest a cooling rack inside of a baking pan and set aside.
Mix everything (except bread) together in a large bowl.
Working one slice at a time, dip bread into the egg mixture (get both sides), and place on the cooling rack. Do this with the rest of the slices.
Pour remaining egg mixture over the dripping slices.
Let sit for 5-10 minutes to let the excess egg mixture drip off the slices.
Place slices of bread on the skillet and cook for about 3-5 minutes or until the side is golden brown. Flip and let cook for another 3-5 minutes. For thicker bread you'll want to err on the side of a longer cooking time.
Serve warm with a cool pat of butter and chilled syrup.
Notes
If you're making a big batch, preheat your oven to 200 degrees F. As you're making the french toast, place cooked slices on a baking sheet and let them sit in the oven to keep warm.
