Outside Spooks

1 Mins read

If you’re going to host a Halloween party, the exterior of your house will set the tone. Add some outdoor spooks to get your guests in the Halloween spirit before they step inside.

EYES IN TREES:

I saw these on Pinterest, but I didn’t see how they were rigged nor how they were made. Colleen suggested we use giant beach balls and paint them white. I took black paint and made giant pupils.

While these were so much fun to make, they were a pain in the butt to put up.

Packing tape, surprisingly, was the best tape to use. It stuck to the balls better than duct tape. I harnessed the balls with extra boat rope. I climbed about halfway up the tree (pictured) to realize the balls didn’t have any good branches to hang on. I ran a bunch of rope through branches and around the trunk to ensure they would not get knocked out by the wind.

At one point, I could pull each rope and operate the eyes so they looked like they were looking around.

OUTDOOR DECORATING:

Colleen installed branches by the front door covered in cobwebs and crows. She also built a cemetery adjacent to the sidewalk leading up the front door and put up bats on the side of the house.
