Tomatoes are everyone’s favorite vegetable (really a fruit) to plant during the gardening season because they are easy and bountiful! There are many different kinds of tomato seeds to start with, depending on what kind of tomato you want to grow based on size and flavor.
When taking care of your tomatoes as seeds or plants they need to be watered often. I use mulch at the bottom of my plants to help keep in the moisture, but straw and plastic grass does work just as well. When the soil is wet, stay away from walking on it to avoid compacting it. Soil is so important! So before you plant the tomatoes, work the soil well and break it up, to encourage the plants to grow deep roots.
While the plant is growing, keep it sturdy with a stake or a wire cage to have the plant grow upright to increase its potential and keep flowers and tomatoes off the soil. When the plant is 3 feet or taller cut off the stems 1 foot and under. Those leaves and stems wont receive a lot of sunlight.
