Do you go to the gym in the morning? These last few weeks have been an “after-work” kind of gym experience. When I get up early enough to go before work or when I head over after work, I’m STARVING! I always pack an apple to eat on my way down to the gym. But halfway through my workout, my stomach is like, “Yo – where’s my food.” I suppress this feeling with chugging more water, but my stomach does not give up. These energy bites have changed my morning routine.
It’s important to eat something within 1 hour of waking up to jumpstart your metabolism; not eating is not an option. But eating a full meal before working out may not sit well with some people – it doesn’t for me.
In viral Pinterest fashion, the food search blew up with these No Bake Energy Bites. Little balls of oats, coconut, and chocolate to snack on when you get hungry. This weekend, Fatima and I made and ate these before going to the gym. We popped one before and after the gym. I was not starving and it kept me going through my whole workout.
We altered these slightly. We did not use coconut, because this guy does not like coconut flakes, shreds, etc. We increased the oatmeal and added a little more honey to keep consistency because more oatmeal made it dry. We also used mini chocolate chips. Not sure if we’ve been bought into the fact these are “energy” bites, but they kept us full at the gym and were quite tasty. I’m not sure how many of these I would actually eat in one day, so for now: one before the gym, one after the gym, and one more around the three o’clock slump. We have 20 of them sitting the fridge, so I’ll be sure to update you once they’re gone.
Updates:
- Whoa. These were so good.
- As of 2016, we are using toasted coconut in the energy bites.
