I cannot believe this is our fifth year celebrating Halloween as a family…and it’s Blair’s first Halloween! We (I) got so many new Halloween decorations to display around the house. This year, Liam was adamant about being Spider-Man. I did not put up a fight because that meant we could reuse his birthday costume.
Lilies and Loafers has affiliate relationships, so we may get a small share of revenue from your purchases. Items are sold by the retailer, not by Lilies and Loafers.
And since Liam was reusing his Miles Morales Spider-Man costume, we reused all of ours: my Spider-Man costume, Fatima’s Spider-Man shirt, and Blair’s Spider-Man onesie. If you remember Liam’s birthday, Blair was The Hulk. That pack of Marvel onesies included a Spider-Man one! Since we were a family of ‘spiders’ we had to let him join in our costume fun.
Halloween Decorations
My new favorite Halloween decorations are the terracotta pumpkins from Pottery Barn and the ghost mug from Target. I’m realizing I have too many pumpkins and ghosts, so next year, I’m going to need to diversify. Maybe some bats, cats, and witches.
My mug collection is growing, too. I was really good this year and stuck to two new mugs. The orange jack-o-lantern and the sleepy ghost; both are from Target.
Carving Pumpkins
I like to carve pumpkins just a few days before Halloween. Growing up, we used to carve pumpkins one to two weeks ahead of Halloween. By the time Halloween came around, they were rotten. We go up to one of our favorite farms the weekend before Halloween to pick out some pumpkins. And then a few days before, we carve them up.
This year, Liam asked to pick out the faces. We went online and showed some options. We saw this classic looking jack-o-lantern face and this surprised face. So I hand drew them on the pumpkin and carved away. He loves them! If you’re looking for a flameless option for your jack-o-lanterns, check this out. I LOVE them so much.
Halloween Costumes
After his Halloween party at school, we all got dressed up and took our Halloween photos. Liam was so excited for Halloween, he wanted to sleep in his costume ahead of his school parade. On Halloween night, we made sugar cookies in the shapes of pumpkins, ghosts, and bats, and decorated them with fun sprinkles. I think next year we’ll start trick-or-treating.
