Move aside Chinese food restaurant, I got a new recipe to replace one of my favorite take out dishes. After a long busy season and many seamless orders I was so over eating out. On my first weekend not working, I decided to start cooking again. I was craving beef and broccoli recipe and I decided to make it myself.
Brian and I just moved into our new apartment and we now have a gas stove. My mother always told me cooking on a gas stove is the best and never understood why until I finally cooked on one. I don’t know if it was the recipe or the stove but this dish came out amazing. Things took a turn for the better when Brian whipped up batch of marquritas. You can say it was a very cultural night mixed with both Chinese and Mexican, it was just what I needed to end this busy season.
[recipe title=”Beef and Broccoli” servings=”4-5″ time=”45 mins” difficulty=”easy”] [recipe-ingredients]Marinade:
- 2 tbsp. of olive oil
- 2 tbsp. of soy sauce
- 1 tbsp. of cornstarch
- 1 tsp of brown sugar
- 2 tbsp. of water
Sauce:
- 1 tbsp. of Sherry
- ¼ cup of Soy sauce
- ¼ cup of water
- 2 tbsp. of brown sugar
- 2 tsp. of garlic powder
- 1 tsp. of cayenne powder
- ½ tsp. of ground ginger
- 2 tbsp. of flour
Other Ingredients:
- 10 oz. pack of frozen Broccoli florets (thawed)
- 2 tbsp. of olive oil
- 1 pound of skirt steak (cut in strips against the grain)
- Mix all the marinade ingredients together in a medium-sized mixing bowl.
- Once the ingredients are combined, add your strips of steak and coat them evenly.
- Cover the bowl and place in the fridge for at least 20 minutes. You can marinate the steak for longer, but I am never patient enough to wait. This would be something to prep earlier in the day so you can start cooking come dinner time.
- Mix all the ingredients for the sauce in a small bowl and place to the side.
- Once the steak has marinated for for a good amount of time, start cooking!
- In a medium pan, warm a tbsp of olive oil on medium high heat and add the broccoli.
- Cook the broccoli until tender and be sure to stir consistently so it doesn’t burn.
- Place the broccoli in a bowl and place off to the side.
- Add the remaining tbsp of olive oil to the pot on medium high heat and add the steak.
- Cook the steak until browned and then stir in the broccoli and sauce mixture.
- Lower the heat to medium low and cook for about 3-5 minutes. You will see the sauce will start to get a little thicker because of the flour and that’s when you know it’s ready!
- You can serve this over white or fried rice.
