You do not need to twist my arm to buy a LEGO set. So when the Wicked Emerald City 75684 LEGO set launched, I didn’t think twice about it. I grew up building LEGO sets …and today, I get to collect and build with my kids. A few months ago I released my video build and review of this LEGO set.
An official trailer for the Wicked movie was released mid-May of this year. Just 14 days later, LEGO released a brick-for-brick recreation of that trailer to announce their Wicked sets would be available in October. It was a smart marketing decision because I had never been more excited. The trailer alone convinced me to buying a set, even when the details of those sets were not made available until later in the summer. With my credit card already in hand, I waited patiently for August when pre-orders would start.
The Welcome to Emerald City 75684 Wicked LEGO set arrived at my doorstep in early October. This set, the largest of the four sets released this year, captures the scene in the movie where Glinda and Elphaba go to meet the Wizard in Emerald City—you may know the song, One Short Day.

Walkthrough of the Wicked Emerald City LEGO Set
The 3-story, 945 piece set comes with 5 mini-dolls: Elphaba, Glinda, Fiyero, Madam Morrible, and The Wizard—with options to wear a top hat or a hair piece. Elphaba, is dressed in her signature black outfit, pointed hat, and is also wearing a cape. Glinda is wearing her opening-number costume, her pink bubble gown, crown, and is holding her wand. While this outfit is not exactly the one she’s wearing in the movie at this moment, I appreciate the designers chose to dress her as Glinda the Good. The inclusion of all of these characters is a big reason why I chose this set over the others. That and the fact this is The Emerald City.

This is my first mini-doll set. Mini-dolls were introduced by LEGO to appeal to female builders. They have larger bodies and are designed to look more realistic and stylish than the classic mini-figures. Girls tend to project themselves on the figures they play with, while boys tend to play in the third person. While they have more designed elements, the mini-dolls are not as moveable as the mini-figures; the arms and legs do not move. However, mini-dolls are meant to exist in the same space as mini-figures, therefore the building bricks that are in each mini-doll set are standard LEGO bricks.
Building the LEGO Set
From unboxing to the last brick, the build took me two and half hours. For a skilled builder like myself, this was longer than I anticipated, however there are a lot of little pieces. The set is recommended for 9 years and older, and I think that’s fair. My 6 year old son helped me with this build. He enjoyed building the set and enjoys playing with it. My two and half hour build may be more like a full day of building for a young kid.
The set is vibrant, containing many hues of green—embodying the Emerald in Emerald City—with accents of blue, pink, and gold. It’s a beautiful set with a handful of scenes you’ll recognize from the movie.

On the first level is a cosmetic store—the source of a lot of those 945 pieces with all the little bottles—a candy apple stand, and the entrance to WIZOMANIA. An Ozpresso bicycle cart can be ridden by The Wizard or Fiyero.
The second level is the map room with The Wizard’s giant talking head, and the Grimmerie spell book. Building the Wizard’s talking head was a lot of fun, especially when I applied the last sticker and clicked it to the wall. Oh the stickers. My least favorite part of any LEGO set are the stickers. I can never get them right the first time. This set has a lot of them and I could not wait to be done applying stickers. But don’t let the stickers prevent you from getting this set!
The third level features another scene, the moment Elphaba casts a levitation spell on a broom and escapes from the tower in Defying Gravity. To create this scene, designers included a long, clear piece that attaches to the base of the top window of the tower, extending outwards and over the scenes below. A broom can be attached at the opposite end of the rod, where you can attach Elphaba and recreate her final riff in Defying Gravity.

Final Thoughts
Overall, I loved building this set. I built the set before seeing the movie. Now that I’ve seen it twice in theaters and countless times in the comfort of our own home, I appreciate all the details of the set. My kids and I love to play with all the characters and explore all the different levels, even flying Elphaba on her broom around the house. The set is a great gift for young Wicked fans (or yourself)!
LEGO has three other sets worth checking out: Glinda and Elphaba’s Dormitory, Elphaba and Glinda Figures, and Glinda, Elphaba, and Nessarose’s arrival at Shiz University.
Rumor has it, a LEGO is releasing a big set for Wicked Part 2 later this year…I can’t wait!
