Halloween is the perfect time to get creative with your kids’ toys and decorations. One of my favorite family traditions is transforming our kids’ dollhouse into a haunted house. It’s simple, affordable, and adds a fun Halloween vibe to our living room.

Transform Your Kids’ Dollhouse into a Haunted House

Our dollhouse is already a hub for Spider-Man, Bowser, Minions, and plenty of train adventures. Since it sits in the middle of our living room, decorating it for the holidays turns it into an extra seasonal centerpiece. With just a few supplies, you can make your kids’ dollhouse look spooky—without damaging it.

Here are two affordable ways to transform your dollhouse into a haunted house for Halloween.

1. Add Spooky Bats

Plastic bats are a classic Halloween decoration, and they’re reusable year after year. We hang them on the walls, scatter them around the playhouse, and bend their wings slightly so they look 3-D and lifelike.

You can grab a pack of reusable plastic bats on Amazon. Most packs come with adhesive, but I recommend using sticky dots like these. They’ve held up for over a month in our house and make it easier to reposition decorations without leaving a mess.

2. Create Glowing Haunted Windows

This trick is easy and makes a huge impact. Use wax paper or parchment paper (printer paper works too) and cut out shapes to match the windows of your kids’ dollhouse. Tape the pieces to the inside of the windows so they create a foggy, spooky glow.

Now for the best part: Halloween lights. We use color-changing LED puck lights like these. They’re bright, remote-controlled, and when placed inside the dollhouse, they instantly give it a haunted house effect. The lights are the same ones we use in our floating pumpkin project, and my kids love changing the colors with the remote.

Why Kids Love It

Turning a dollhouse into a haunted house isn’t just about decorating. It becomes part of the play. My kids love mixing superheroes, villains, and Halloween characters into their games. It’s simple, affordable, and makes the house feel extra festive.

Whether you’re preparing for trick-or-treat night or just want to add a fun DIY touch to your home, these two haunted dollhouse ideas will bring Halloween magic to your living room.
