Red Velvet Waffles

1 Mins read

A previous version of this post for red velvet waffles was published in November 2012. We overhauled the post with new photos, formatting, and text.

Red Velvet Waffles

If you don’t eat something red velvet on Valentine’s Day, is it even Valentine’s Day? We love our red velvet desserts (truffles, whoopie pies, icebox cake), and the perfect thing to wake up to on February 14th, besides cinnamon rolls, is red velvet waffles.

Red Velvet Waffles

This post was originally published almost ten years ago! When we made these waffles yesterday to update the photos, Liam helped me whip them up. He loves to measure and pour. I love how he loves to help me in the kitchen and how equally he loves helping with the photo shoots.

Making the Red Velvet Waffles

You can make these waffles from scratch or drop in cocoa powder and red food coloring to a boxed waffle mix. We’ve done it both ways! To be honest, the made-from-scratch method gives you a delicious waffle, but you can’t go wrong with a boxed waffle mix, either.

Red Velvet Waffles

To make red velvet waffles with a boxed waffle mix, just add 2 tablespoons of cocoa for every 1-1.5 cups of waffle mix. You’ll only need about 1 teaspoon of food coloring gel. With the gel, a little does go a long way. But always add more as needed.

For the delicious maple cream cheese glaze, I recommend Kevin is Cooking‘s recipe for glaze and add in 1.5 teaspoons of maple syrup.
