A previous version of this post for Peanut Butter Blossoms was published in December 2012. We took new photos and adjusted the recipe.
One of my favorite flavors, as you are well aware, is peanut butter. What better way to celebrate the holidays than to mix peanut butter and chocolate? These peanut butter blossoms are really easy to make *cue eye rolls* trust me, they are! Remember when I tried making those pumpkin truffles? I warned you. All you’ll need is a bag of peanut butter mix, and Hershey Kisses. The majority of your time will be unwrapping the Hershey Kisses.
These delicious delectables were created in 1957 when Freda Smith in Ohio pressed a Hershey Kiss into a peanut butter cookie for a Pillsbury bake-off contest. Unfortunately, it didn’t win but history was made.
We make these at least once during the holidays, and are always popping up at parties year after year. Unless you’re allergic to peanut butter or hate chocolate (yes some people do!) these make a quick and easy treat to enjoy at your next party.
You can even make these into peanut butter chocolate chip cookies!
Peanut Butter Blossoms
Ingredients
- ¾ cup butter, softened
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 2½ cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1 cup peanut butter
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1 package of milk or dark chocolate Hershey Kisses (70 count bag)
- 1/2 cup sugar in a small bowl, set aside for rolling dough
Instructions
Take out the butter to soften to room temperature.
Combine the flour, salt, and baking soda in a medium-sized mixing bowl.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, brown sugar, and peanut butter.
Add eggs and vanilla.
Slowly add the flour mixture to the wet mixture until combined.
Fill a small soup bowl with 1/2 cup of sugar.
Using a standard cookie scoop, scoop dough, roll them into balls, and dust around in the bowl of sugar. Place them on a cookie sheet.
Place in the oven and bake for 10 minutes.
Remove the cookie sheet from the oven, and immediately push a Hershey kiss into the center of each cookie. Cool for 5-10 minutes until they firm up.
Move cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
