A Handcrafted Bouquet with a Personal Touch
Nothing says “I love you” like tiny handprints transformed into flowers! This craft uses your kids’ handprints (and optionally, footprints) as the blooms, with paper straws for stems, all brought together in a handmade flower pot made from construction paper. It’s easy, inexpensive, and packed with sentimental value.
Why This Craft is Perfect for Mother’s Day
- It’s personal. Your kids’ handprints and footprints make it uniquely theirs.
- It’s colorful. You can customize the colors to match mom’s favorites.
- It’s an easy afternoon project. Perfect for dads and kids to tackle together.
- It becomes a cherished keepsake. Moms love handmade gifts, especially ones that freeze a moment in time.
Pro Dad Tips for Crafting Success
Here are a few tips to keep things smooth and frustration-free for your kids:
- Pick mom’s favorite colors for the construction paper, flowers, and pot.
- Coordinate the glitter hearts with the flowers for a cohesive look.
- Use light green paper for the leaves—it’s a softer, more natural look than dark green.
- Light brown construction paper works best for the pot—it’s easy to write on and looks great.
- Speed things up by painting both hands at once.
- If using footprints, have kids sit in chairs. It’s way easier than chasing them around with painty feet!

This handprint flower pot craft is a wonderful way to show appreciation for the amazing moms and motherly figures in our lives. Whether you’re crafting with toddlers, preschoolers, or older kids, it’s a meaningful and fun activity that results in a beautiful handmade gift.

Mother’s Day Paper Flower Craft
- Total Time: 30 minutes
- Yield: 1 card
- Category: DIY
Description
A simple handprint paper craft for mom and grammy.
Ingredients
Handprints
- White paper
- Paint in bright colors, like blue, orange, yellow, and pink
- Paint brush
Flowers
- Paper straws or wooden dowels (stems)
- Light green paper (leaves)
- Glitter paper in coordinating colors of the handprints (hearts)
Card Craft
- 1 sheet construction paper: mom’s favorite color
- 1 sheet brown construction paper
- Glitter paper in same color as mom’s favorite color (or any color)
- Glue
- Black marker
- Scissors
Instructions
Handprints
- Paint your child’s hands (or feet) in bright colors and press them onto white paper. Use a paint brush to spread the paint (caution this may tickle!).
- Let them dry completely, then cut them out, leaving a small white border.
- Set aside.
Flowers
- Glue a paper straw to the back of each handprint, about halfway up.
- Cut small hearts from glitter paper and glue them at the top of each straw, covering the end.
- Cut out leaf shapes from light green paper and glue them to the straws. I cut two leaves per flower. Add more or less as needed.
- Set aside to dry.
- Repeat with all hand/footprints.
Assembling the Paper Card Craft
- Choose a colorful sheet of construction paper for the background. This can be mom’s favorite color or a coordinating color with the flowers.
- With the light brown construction paper, draw a pot. This pot will “hold” the flowers. The flower pot should be wide enough for flowers to fit, and only about 1/3 of the paper.
- Optional: Cut a large glitter heart to add a message like “We ❤️ Mommy.”
- Arrange your flowers on the “mom’s favorite color” background. I used three flowers per flower pot. Place the flower pot over the stems to see if you like the placement. If all looks good glue the flower stems to the construction paper.
- Glue the flower pot over the bottom of the flower stems. Let dry before surprising mommy with this craft!
