When Liam was born we put together a list of our favorite products for newborns and infants. Four years later and another kid, we’re refreshing the list with new takes on our favorite products and including some new products! Lilies and Loafers has affiliate relationships, so we may get a small share of revenue from your purchases. Items are sold by the retailer, not by Lilies and Loafers.
Blair is almost three months old and we can’t believe how fast he’s growing up. When we were thinking about what we needed, we took inventory of what we kept (pretty much everything) and what we needed. We determined almost all of Liam’s clothes were good (it’s the toddler clothes that he wore into the ground). We ended up getting a few new outfits to fit newborn to six months because, you know, winter babies.
We initially made that registry to keep track of things we needed to get (and get a discount). Then it came in handy when our family threw Fatima a sprinkle. The first time, we made an Amazon Baby Registry. This time, we went with Target. They were about the same when it came to different perks, but this time around, Target had some pretty good deals post-delivery (like 20% off baby clothes for a period of time). And since we were initially going to buy everything ourselves, our Target Red Card gets us 5% off + other discounts.
As we found out with Liam, no two babies are the same. Liam hated the swing, Blair loves to be in it. We’re not trying to say the things on this list are going to work for you and your baby. That’s something you need to figure out yourself. We had and now have another very particular baby who knows what he doesn’t like. Hopefully this list can give you an idea of what you’re looking for and to help jump-start your registry!
Our Baby Essentials: First Three Months
Bottles
We still love Como Tomo. Fatima is exclusively breastfeeding Blair, like she did with Liam, but we’ve introduced a bottle of breast milk a little sooner this time around. We were able to keep a few of the bottles and bought new ones, too.
Bottle Warmer
Our first bottle warmer was from Babebay. It did what it needed to do, but we found it to be too large and it took a while to heat up. It held two bottles, but we didn’t need two bottles at once (if you have twins, sure it works). We upgraded to a Philips Avent Fast Warmer and so far I love it. Since I’m the one giving the bottle, it has my full recommendation. It heats up in about three minutes, which still feels like a really long time when you have a crying, hungry baby, haha. The warmer can defrost breast milk and it fits the Como Tomo along with other name-brand bottles.
Swaddles
- We still stand by the Miracle Swaddle we had for our FB. We put our SB into it and he, too, was instantly calmed. He really does love to be swaddled.
- We also stand by and recommend SwaddleMe. It’s great for quick changes at night and daytime napping, too!
- The Wombie was great to have for Blair when he was a new newborn. He calmed down so quickly in it and loved being snuggled.
- We have the ZEN Swaddle for an older infant in the crib. We got a 0-3 month swaddle to help calm Blair down around bedtime.
Sleeping
Eventually, Blair will go into this beautiful crib from Target. It’s sturdy, has a modern look, and transforms into a daybed. Until then, he’s in…
The SNOO
Shop SNOO, the smart bassinet. Get more sleep–and peace of mind that your baby is safe!
Liam really loved the SNOO by the end. I am so happy we had The SNOO on day 1 for Blair. It really is a lifesaver when it rocks him back to sleep. It’s a great investment and we’ll be using this for all the kids that we’re blessed with. I would totally share pictures of two sleeping babies, but I love their happy giggles when they wake up after a great nap so much better :).
Moby Wrap
When you have things to do around the house, the Moby wrap, specifically this one, is the best. I would even use it outside before Liam was big enough to face forward in his other carrier.
Dagne and Dover diaper bag
We gushed over a backpack we got from Target. Months later, we realized how much of a nuissance it was when it came to size. We really needed a bag that could be packed up with all the essentials and keep a low profile. We love Dagne and Dover for some other bags we have and love their diaper bag.
Pacifier Clips
New parents, continuing parent. You need these. When you can’t find them in the store, make them yourself!
The Stroller
We already told you about The Doona. We still love it and love the latch base in the car (now that we have a car).
Colugo
A stroller we have for Liam post-Doona is the Compact Stroller from Colugo. We love love love it. It folds up nicely and maintains a low profile. We’re thinking about upgrading to the Complete Stroller, too!
Diaper Disposal
We had a Diaper Genie and loved it. But the smell of soiled diapers made its way into the plastic inside and it smelled every time we opened it. We did a little more research ahead of Blair’s arrival and opted in for the Ubbi.
So far, we love the Ubbi. We get to use our own garbage bags, so there’s no searching for cheap knock-off bag cartridges.
DIY Diaper Basket
If you need a changing station on the go, make a diaper basket! It’s filled with diapers (duh) and this highly recommended changing pad.
SnuggleMe Organic
We didn’t have the SnuggleMe Organic on our registry, but ended up getting this ourselves. We had the Boppy Lounger on the registry and we love it (still do!). Unfortunately it was recalled recently, so we’re not going to post a link. But the SnuggleMe is wonderful.
Why we love SnuggleMe: The only place Liam wanted to spend his time awake and asleep was in our arms. As much as we love to snuggle, we needed a break. The SnuggleMe was a perfect alternative. Blair chills in this, does some tummy time, and also loves the SnuggleMe.
Baby Gym
For both kids, this mat was a place they could play, do tummy time, and often entertain themselves as we sat nearby. If you can believe it, our two and a half month old just rolled over. Liam also learned to roll over on this thing. It’s not magic, we just love tummy time on it.
Why we love it: It’s a safe and soft space for Blair to explore and grow his motor skills when mommy and daddy’s arms get tired.
Swing
We left this off of our initial list because Liam did not like to be in the swing. However, Blair loves it. It’s been a few years, but here’s the closest one to what we have. Simple, yet effective.
Bouncer
Liam was a particular baby. We went through three or so bouncers before we gave up. We found this one for Blair and he loves it. It keeps him upright, and I can place it all over the house so he can join us while we’re eating dinner, watching TV, doing laundry, or cleaning.
