Our youngest is now two years old and we are still recovering. We asked Blair how he wanted to celebrate his birthday, and he replied, “cars.” And that’s how we ended up with a 2 Fast 2 Furious Pixar Cars theme.
Blair loves cars. Hot Wheels, Jeeps, Hess trucks, pretty much any vehicle. But above all else, he loves Pixar’s Cars. He loves the movies, he loves the merch, he loves the toy cars. He loves Lightning McQueen. Ask him what Lightning McQueen says and he’ll reply, “Ka-chow”.
Theme? Check! Now to the food. We wanted to offer some of Blair’s favorite things. Fatima had a great idea to serve brunch as a way to stay far from nap time. We offered smoothies, yogurt parfaits, bagels, and assorted fruit (aka lots of strawberries). I setup a little fuel bar for the cupcakes, Luigi’s donut tires, and the fuel tank party favors (see below for fuel bar details).
Tying in the Pixar Cars theme
No matter the size of the party, we’re a family that celebrates every birthday with cake (or a special treat of your choosing) and balloons. For this gathering, we mixed gold and red balloons (Lightning McQueen), with black and white balloons (checkered flag). They looked great.

Cars Wearing Party Hats
Toys wearing party hats is a speciality of mine. I started making these little hats this almost six years ago for Liam’s first birthday and more recently for his fourth birthday. If you want a deep dive on how I make these hats, check out the how-to video below. I made these hats with construction paper and the remaining mini pom poms. I spent too much time color coordinating the construction paper and pom poms with each car. For Blair’s cake toppers, I was looking for little cars. I finally came across these mini Cars (and they were on sale!). They were the perfect size and they even doubled as little party favors.
Those cars and these checkered flags topped the vanilla cupcakes. I would have liked to dress them up with sprinkles, but Blair is not a fan. We used these red plates and these napkins for the food.
Luigi’s Casa Della Donut Tires
Blair loves donuts. For the fuel bar, I packaged up Entenmann’s pop’ettes mini donuts to create Luigi’s Casa Della Tires ‘spare tires’. To make the labels, I photoshopped the logo and used Avery’s online design service to print them out. Here’s a free printable! This file works with labels that use Avery’s 5160 template.
Fuel Tank Party Favors
Everyone got to take home a little fuel box filled with Blair’s favorite snacks. The kids received some extra goodies: a character from Cars and sunglasses.
Everyone had a ton of fun, and Blair loved the party, but I think he loved the balloons the most.
