Killing Our Succulent

Killing Our Succulent

What is happening? Our poor succulent, Sophie, has taken a turn for the worst. Over the last year, Sophie has been deteriorating. We thought she was being watered too much, then too little. We changed her position in the window. But nothing changed her outcome. We intervened. This is a before and after. The first photo is from January, the second is from this weekend.

When we first bought her, she was a flat, full succulent. Over time she started to get taller. Then her petals began to wilt. But she continued to grow. We followed the directions on the watering and the sunlight. But the succulents petals would not grow back. They continued to wilt. What are we doing wrong?? After talking to many friends, coworkers, and the internet, it seems there’s not a right way to care for a succulent. Please help!

Back in January, I had Brian replant the succulent. Succulents don’t like wet feet. I thought the water wasn’t fulling draining, so I had him add rocks to the bottom of the pot.

I originally wanted to talk about how we saved our succulent. Since she got worse, I need advice on what to do next! Should we remove the rocks? After Brian added the rocks, he added Sophie back to pot in some fresh soil.

Then she sat upright. We watered the soil and left out of the sun for a few days to get used to the new soil. Then it went south. This is what our succulent looked like right after repotting:

So healthy, right? Anyone have a green thumb? I thought succulents were hard to kill. Please leave us some advice so we can save our succulent!
